The Royal Fern has large, bright-green fronds that can grow quite tall. The fronds have a unique structure with leadlets on either side of a central stock that tend to turn a golden-yellow colour in the fall. It thrives in shaded areas with moist soil; it's even suited to boggy areas or beside water features like ponds or streams. This fern's size and elegant form makes it an excellent choice for adding vertical interest. Moist soils will produce the largest plants, but Osmunda regalis var. regalis is amazingly drought tolerant. Deer resistant.
