The Marginal Wood Fern displays leathery, dark green fronds that grow in an upright to slightly arching clump. They thrive in moist, well-drained soil and do well in partial to full shade. This fern is suited for shaded borders, under trees or as ground cover. While relatively low maintenance, the fern does benefit from mulching around the base to help retain soil moisture and keep the roots cool. It doesn't need regular fertilization but a slow-release fertilizer in the spring is helpful. This is the most drought-tolerant of the Wood Ferns. Deer Resistant.
